Guard Audition Instructions:
Greetings! Thanks for checking out the audition material for guard.
You'll need to get a flag pole from the high school for your audition prep. Flags can be checked out from Mr. Engelhardt on Thursday, 5/21, from 1-3 pm, or on Friday, 5/22 from 1-3 pm. If neither of these days work, please email him at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Color guard is part of the marching band, and rehearses daily during 4th period. You'll need to have band in your schedule if you are accepted into the guard. In addition to the 4th period band rehearsals, the guard rehearses two nights a week outside of the school day, usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8 pm. Those sectionals are mandatory.
The guard is coached by Terri Packard. Her coaching is excellent, and the guard consistently achieves top scores from the guard judges at the state marching band festival.
Guard Audition Guidelines:
Download the count sheet (below). It explains the the timing of the moves and what happens.
Watch the short instructional videos (below).
The first video is a full run from the front, then the back. If you're practicing along with the videos, use the "back view" so you're learning the correct direction of the flags.
The second video is a teaching video, and it breaks down each section and shows you how to do it. Pay attention to hand position and angles. Practice each section slowly, then start stringing them together.
Use the audition audio (below). You'll need this for your audition.
Video auditions will be used for 2020.
Have an audio player/speaker play the audition audio.
Have a camera/chromebook/smartphone video set up to record you from the front view. We want to see your smile and see the flag in it's entirety, so make sure the camera is placed far enough back to capture everything.
Record the audition in one unedited take (you can make multiple takes, send in only the best one).
Once you've got the audition recorded, then go to the google form submission link, fill in the appropriate information, upload your video, and you're done!
Videos are due by 8 pm on 5/29.
